The purple/blue disks are CD based games, and the silver ones are DVD based games. Usually that's the case. What you have my friend is the bitter end of the stick. Most PS2 games (esp. the new ones) are DVD games. Your lens is at fault. You could try tweaking the lens and hopefully that will help. If it doesn't then you need to order a lens. Sometimes it's like yours (read CD but not DVD) and sometimes it's the opposite. In some cases where it's the other way around (read DVD but not CD) and you leave the CD in there for a while, it will actually read. In your case, try leaving the disk in there and go into the BROWSER and check the activity (does it read or try to read or give you a DRE [Disk Read Error]). Post back your results when you can. Hope it helps (if you need to know where to get a lens, post that back as well).
