I have one of these and find it very good but want to hardwire my car and want to know whether this unit can be connected directly to PDA rather than using Bluetooth?

Judging from the connectors on the device (there are not connectors besides power) you cannot.

There might be an advanced way of opening the device and soldering or what not but I think its better to buy a second unit that does not support BT, only wire.
